Nebraska lies in the heart of Tornado Alley, making severe weather tracking a critical public safety responsibility for local amateur radio operators.
Through partnership with National Weather Service (NWS) offices in Omaha/Valley, Hastings, North Platte, and Cheyenne, trained SKYWARN spotters deploy across Nebraska to monitor supercell thunderstorms, hail size, high winds, and tornado development.
Net control stations collect real-time observations via VHF/UHF repeater networks and relay ground-truth reports directly to NWS meteorologists, assisting in timely warning issuance for Nebraska communities.
